Ars Nova Workshop Presents: Todd Sickafoose’s Tiny Resistors

$15 general admission

The Philadelphia Art Alliance is pleased to welcome Ars Nova Workshop as they present the Philadelphia premier of Todd Sickafoose’s original composition BEAR PROOF.

A student of Charlie Haden and Mel Powell, Bay Area native Todd Sickafoose has played with other innovative musicians across several genres, including Ani DiFranco, Andrew Bird, Nels Cline, Yoko Ono, Trey Anastasio, Scott Amendola, and many more. San Francisco Chronicle calls him “a captivating improviser, imaginative composer, and master of collaboration,” and Bass Player Magazine calls him “stunningly brilliant.”

Sickafoose’s Tiny Resistors have played with an astounding range of musical innovators, from Lou Reed to Lucinda Williams, Bill Frisell to Norah Jones, Tin Hat to Dr. Lonnie Smith. This octet version of the band features Todd on bass, Jenny Scheinman on violin, Ben Goldberg on clarinet, Kirk Knuffke on cornet, Rob Reich on accordion, Erik Deutsch on piano, Adam Levy on guitar, and Allison Miller on drums. Tonight’s concert will include the Philadelphia premiere of BEAR PROOF, an hour-long piece commissioned by Chamber Music America. Todd describes the music, which he composed specifically for this octet version of Tiny Resistors, as “a wordless portrait of booms and busts in the Golden State.”
